Abbey seeks agency to patch up media relations

High-street bank Abbey will trawl for fresh PR support in the new year, two years after it was acquired by Spanish firm Grupo Santander.

Head of media relations Anthony Frost said the move signalled its intent to ‘re-establish credentials with the financial media'. He added that Abbey wants to establish a robust press office and improve its relationship with the media. It does not currently retain any agencies.

Frost joined last month and reports to comms director Matt Young, who was promoted from a senior PR position to take over from Thomas Coops (PRWeek, 20 Jan). Coops is now at BA.

Frost was previously head of media relations at insurer Prudential. That role has now been dissolved as Prudential itself undergoes a reshuffle. Steve Colton has been promoted to the new post of UK head of PR under group PR director Jon Bunn, who also oversees comms for online bank Egg.

SEPERATELY... Prudential director of PR James Murray joined Lansons Communications as board director with a new-business remit. Prudential retains Lansons.
