Powerscourt hires Fletcher

Bloomberg correspondent Matthew Fletcher has joined Powerscourt as a director.

He is advising Aer Lingus as the airline defends a potential £1bn takeover by Irish rival Ryanair.

Fletcher, who started this week, specialised in covering the European defence, aerospace and airline industries at Bloomberg. He will work alongside Powerscourt directors Anthony Silverman, Victoria Brough and Victoria Palmer-Moore. All report to agency partner Rory Godson

Prior to joining Bloomberg, Fletcher worked as a journalist for the Financial Mail on Sunday, specialising in industry, and was news editor of the paper's Scottish edition. He has also worked for AOL Time Warner in Hong Kong.

Irish prime minister Bertie Ahern last week said he was ‘rigorously opposed' to Ryanair taking control of Aer Lingus in a mooted £1bn deal.

SEPERATELY... Powerscourt has picked up the financial PR account for Ireland-based convenience-food manufacturer Greencore Group.

The company produces more than 35 million sandwiches and 22 million cakes a year for major supermarkets and other brands. Powerscourt replaces College Hill Associates.

Powerscourt is to relocate to London's Clerkenwell in the new year after outgrowing its Ludgate Hill base.
