'Fat clinic' calls in agency support

A clinic set up by three surgeons to capitalise on a rise in the number of obese people requesting surgery on the NHS has brought in a PR agency to promote services.

Loco Communications is promoting The Weight Loss Surgery Clinic, which will provide surgical treatment for private and NHS patients from later this month.

Loco - set up last year by Sandra Paul and Jane Day - will launch the clinic through the regional media in Avon, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, before rolling out a national campaign.

‘We hope to spark a grown-up debate on obesity surgery and get away from the freak-show coverage that the issue has received so far,' said Loco Communications director Jane Day.

UK hospitals are reportedly being overwhelmed with obese people requesting surgical procedures to reduce their weight, forcing the NHS to raise the weight threshold for those eligible for surgery in order to cope with the demand.
