Meagher leaves United Utilities for govt skills role

Government skills body the Sector Skills Development Agency (SSDA) has recruited United Utilities public affairs manager Kevin Meagher to a newly created head of PA role.

The post has been created as the issue of skills shortages rises up the political agenda.

Meagher reports to director of communications Jerry Lloyd.

The strategy of any proactive PA campaign is unlikely to be thrashed out until Lord Leitch, the chairman of the National Employment Panel, has released the results of his review on the subject, due later this year. Meagher did not rule out taking on a PA consultancy.

He spent four-and-a-half years at United Utilities, based in Warrington, Cheshire, before which he was a regional press officer for the Labour Party in the North-West.

United Utilities said that it was now on the hunt for Meawgher's replacement.

Meagher said: ‘High-quality skills and training are at the heart of the nation's economic productivity.'
