Engineers' body nets IoD business expert Wilson

The Royal Academy of Engineering (RAE) has brought in Institute of Directors (IoD) head of business policy Dr Richard Wilson to head up its PR arm.

He arrives in the first week of October and replaces former director of comms Tom McLaughlan, who left after three years in the role. McLaughlan joined Accenture as head of government relations in July.

Reporting to chief executive Phillip Greenish, Wilson will lead a team of eight covering publications, events, press and policy. He has held his current role at the IoD for eight years.

‘Richard's remit will be to increase awareness of the academy and its functions to a wider mainstream audience by creating stronger links with the media and developing a range of public engagement activities,' said Greenish.

The RAE runs training and educational programmes and a visiting lecture programme. Topics dealt with by the academy include sustainable development and the Government's ongoing energy review.

Greenish explained that the Royal Academy of Engineering is also currently compiling a report, entitled ‘The Dilemmas of Surveillance and Privacy'.
