Gambling Commission hires pair to manage comms

The Gambling Commission has abandoned its search for a head of comms and instead recruited a brace of comms managers following recruitment difficulties.

Mark Lepkowski and John Travers are both based in its Birmingham headquarters.

Lepkowski joins the commission from Stratford-on-Avon District Council, where he was PR manager. He has also worked for the Ministry of Defence and Central Office of Information.

Travers joins from Wolverhampton City Council where he was e-comms manager.

The duo report to director of policy and comms Beryl Brown.

The commission was originally seeking to hire a comms manager and head of comms. Consultant Julia Harvard, the former head of external relations at Ofwat, will provide ad hoc comms advice.

‘There were recruitment issues despite the fact that some strong candidates were interviewed. The board decided that John, myself and Julia could provide sufficient skills for the team,' said Lepkowski.
