Letter: Editorial Intelligence: an undermining force

I am genuinely amazed that no one has come out on behalf of the PR profession to speak out about Julia Hobsbawm's Editorial Intelligence - the concept seems to be damaging reputations among media, corporates and PROs.

We're hearing plenty from the journalists who appear to have started a steady stream of resignations from the 'forum', but the PR industry's opinion is conspicuous by its absence.

The concept is ill-conceived: media and corporates have been engaged in valuable dialogue for decades - without remuneration. And there have always been rules of engagement - written or unwritten.

The moments when our industry receives criticism for 'spin' are usually because the public catch a glimpse of the spinner. The very premise of this formalised club is therefore to the detriment of all our reputations.
