Tiscali reviews PR as rivalry hots up

Internet provider Tiscali is reviewing its entire UK PR support as it battles for customers in an increasingly aggressive broadband market.

The ISP, which has over two million UK customers and is the third largest in Europe, is locked in a ferocious tussle with AOL, Wanadoo, NTL and BT to offer faster broadband and add-on services.

It hired Borkowski PR on a consumer and corporate brief in 2003 on fees of £250,000 (PRWeek, 4 Sep 2003). But PR and comms
director Jody Haskayne said the agency was now working on a project basis while the account was being reviewed.

'We will be reviewing everything: our consumer, trade, corporate and public affairs support,' said Haskayne. 'The landscape of this sector has changed and we need to look at how broadband has evolved. The market is very aggressive and users are becoming more sophisticated.'

Tiscali has used LD Communications for music projects and Firefly Communications for B2B press relations over the past year.

Tiscali last month announced a trial of a VoIP service to compete with Skype's offering.
