Anti-euthanasia group fights law

An anti-euthanasia alliance that has vowed to fight suggested changes to assisted suicide laws has called in PR support for its launch.

Care Not Killing is a UK-based collaboration of human rights groups, palliative care groups and faith-based bodies. It has tasked religious sector specialist Iain Taylor Communications to spearhead its opposition to Lord Joffe's Assisted Dying for the Terminally Ill Bill, due to be debated in the House of Lords in May.

The launch comes after pro-euthanasia group Dignity in Dying pushed the issue to the top of the news agenda over the highly publicised suicide of Dr Anne Turner.

John Wiles, chairman of the Association of Palliative Medicine, said there was an 'urgent need' to rally opposition to the law.
