Leeds in fresh publicity drive

Marketing Leeds is reviewing its PR as part of a campaign to establish itself as an international business centre.

Based in one of the UK's biggest financial centres outside London, the promotional body is undertaking its third comms review since setting up two years ago.

'There will be a more business-focused approach to PR. There is a lot to say about business in Leeds,' said a spokeswoman. 'Tourism will also make up the brief as businesses will benefit from the city having a higher profile.'

Marketing Leeds also wants to position the city as an area of sporting excellence, publicising its Championship football club, the local Rugby League team and Yorkshire County Cricket Club, based at Headingley. Incumbent agency The Poulter Partners is not repitching but insisted relations between the parties were amicable.

'It is a business decision. At the moment it is not the right time for us to return to this account,' said Poulter account director Sarah
Giangregorio, who has reported to Marketing Leeds marketing and comms manager Emma Gray.

Pitches will take place on 7 February, with the successful agency taking up the reins from March.

Marketing Leeds is funded by regional development agency Yorkshire Forward and Leeds City Council. Firms in the city also fund the organisation via a 'champion of the city' scheme.
