BHP Billiton beefs up its media team

BHP Billiton has poached Centrica head of group media relations Illtud Harri to handle increasing media interest in the company and its mining activities.

Harri, who has been at Centrica for nearly seven years, will join BHP in March as senior media relations adviser. BHP V-P of IR and comms Mark Lidiard said in October that media relations was being stepped up because of increased interest in commodities and the expansion of the firm (PRWeek, 21 October 2005).

National Australia Bank external relations manager Samantha Evans has filled a similar role in Melbourne.

Centrica media relations manager Andrew Turpin has replaced Harri.
