Gumtree reviews agency account

Gumtree, the London-based classifieds site bought by eBay last year, is reviewing its agency support. The site wants to outgrow its ‘backpacker’ roots.

Gumtree – set up in 2000 to help Antipodean expats, and which offers flat-shares, jobs and community information – this month added more than 20 British cities to its coverage. It also operates in five countries outside Britain.

The review has been triggered by the arrival of Sophy Silver, from Carphone Warehouse, as head of comms.

Gumtree has been promoted by Seventy Seven PR – eBay's retained agency – for the past six months. Silver will shortlist around three agencies, potentially including Seventy Seven, within weeks for a campaign to kick off in March.
