Axon hire signals corporate intent

Healthcare specialist agency Axon Communications has brought in Andrew Butcher to lead the firm’s charge for non-healthcare corporate business.

Butcher – until last year CEO of corporate reputation consultancy Christow – started at the Richmond-upon-Thames outfit last week, reporting to managing partner Ralph Sutton in a director role.

Almost all of the office's business currently comes from pharmaceutical clients such as Roche, Merck & Co, ALK Abello, UCB Pharma and Napp.

Butcher has been briefed to bring in non-healthcare corporate business, although he will also advise healthcare clients should the need arise.

Sutton said: 'This is a strategic hire for us to enter sectors such as energy and construction.'

Butcher's experience in the past 12 months has included advising West Middlesex University Hospital and the Royal National
Orthopedic Hospital.

Butcher spent three years at Shandwick in the late 1980s before co-founding his own firm, Harrington Communications.

Harrington was merged with Basil Towers' agency Christow six years ago.

Christow ceased to exist last year, with Towers now running his own consultancy, Hesleden.

Butcher brings to Axon his client World Event Management.

His arrival takes Axon up to 14 permanent staff. The agency is the European office of Canadian firm National Public Relations.
