Lehal exits Edelman to launch start-up Insight

John Lehal has quit his post as a director in Edelman’s PA practice to launch Insight Public Affairs, and lured British Retail Consortium public affairs manager James Tyrell to join him.

Insight will aim to offer strategic counsel to clients across a range of sectors.

Lehal, whose experience is particularly strong in healthcare, started his career as a researcher for Labour MP Margaret Moran. He then joined corporate and PA consultancy Profile, which in 2000 was acquired by Westminster Strategy, then led by Edelman's European vice-chairman Michael Burrell. Burrell hired Lehal to Edelman when he made the move at the beginning of 2003.

Tyrell will join the start-up on 1 February. The BRC is recruiting for his replacement in a role that reports to director-general Kevin Hawkins. He joined the trade body in mid-2004 and was previously a senior account executive at Westminster Strategy.

Lehal has also appointed politics graduate Benjamin Fox as account executive.
