Shire’s Varney in move to C&W role

Shire Health International stalwart Jo Varney has joined Cohn & Wolfe’s UK healthcare team.

She has taken up an associate director role at C&W and is working on its AstraZeneca international business, as well as its Novartis Ophthalmics account in the field of age-related macular degeneration.

Varney reports to C&W UK healthcare joint MDs Jacinta Collins and Jeremy Clark. She is working alongside UK healthcare practice leader Fiona McMillan and Jo Spadaccino, recently promoted to a director role.

C&W bagged its Novartis Ophthalmics contract – a global programme spanning medical and consumer PR – earlier this year.

Varney first joined Shire  seven years ago and – other than a two-year stint at Lowe Fusion – worked there until her departure from a programme director role in October. Latterly she worked  on AZ and Boehringer Ingelheim business.

Other recent C&W hires include senior account executive Georgie Griffith and account executive Tara Cottrell.

Griffith joined from Fleishman-Hillard; prior to that she was an AZ sales representative. Cottrell was formerly an account executive at Richmond-based agency The Workhouse.
