Wake takes wider Lilly comms role

Lilly UK has installed Dominic Wake as comms manager in a restructure that sees corporate, product and internal PR fall under his aegis.

Wake has moved from a role as NHS/government relations adviser at Lilly, the firm behind Prozac, schizophrenia brand Zyprexa and cancer treatment Gemzar.

He said: 'Healthcare PR people increasingly need to feel as confident briefing an MP as a journalist.'

Wake heads a six-strong team comprising corporate comms manager Patricia Barnfather, comms advisers Joanna Greenfield and Nick Francis, and comms co-ordinator Karen Talbot. It is recruiting for a third adviser.

Wake is one of three staff reporting directly to corporate affairs director Erin Huntington, whose overall team is now 18-strong: the other two are NHS/government relations manager John Ricketts and health outcomes manager Jessamy Watkins. Wake joined Lilly just over 18 months ago from AstraZeneca (PRWeek, 9 April 2004).

Lilly is hoping for greater stability in its corporate affairs team. Staff exits in the past couple of years have included Maxine Taylor
(to Cancer Research UK), Jeff Smith (Huntsworth), Meredith Guest (Virgo Health PR), Mark Sudwell (Red Door Communications) and Georgina Pinnington (Ruder Finn).
