Syngenta man to head UCB comms

Belgium-based biopharma firm UCB has hired Syngenta external relations manager Ian Weatherhead to oversee UK corporate comms.

The move follows UCB's acquisition last year of UK rival Celltech.
Weatherhead took the newly created position of head of R&D comms at UCB last month, reporting to Brussels-based head of corporate communications Jean-Christophe Donck.

Weatherhead has overall responsibility for comms in the UK, including day-to-day contact with retained City agency Brunswick.
Although UCB is only listed on Euronext Brussels, Weatherhead said there were no plans to review the company's relationship with Brunswick.

He joined AstraZeneca in 1999, staying until Syngenta was spun off in 2001.
