Let's do lunch - The Amber Regent

In a city never short on opinions and where it rarely pays to be backward about coming forward, the Glasgow media 'world' has often been grateful for the Amber Regent.

This is a place where you just know deals have been done, contracts

celebrated, ideas hatched and the odd romantic dalliance instigated.

In plush and elegant surroundings, you'll find fine wine and food, often

described as the best example of classical Chinese cuisine in the city,

and perhaps country.

Don't just take my word for it, the pictures of owner Andy Chung with

such luminaries as Ally McCoist, Colin Montgomerie, Ian Woosnam, Sam

Torrance, Charlie Nicholas and one or two Miss Worlds give a flavour of

respect to a place where the selection of Cantonese, Szechuan and

Mandarin dishes is inspiring.

The ornately carved vegetables, which accompany the mixed hors

d'oeuvres, merit a visit on their own.

The main dining room is the place to be seen, but if you want to be a

little more discreet, intimate booths provide privacy without losing

atmosphere.

One visit to the Amber Regent is never enough, it is a place to be

enjoyed time and time again. You never know who you might see or

overhear, but you will be delighted you were there.
