Awareness campaign close-up: Mental Health Day backed worldwide

World Mental Health Day is this year making ‘Mental and Physical Health Across the Lifespan’ its central theme.

In its 13th year, it is the US-based World Federation for Mental Health's biggest annual campaign and has backing from AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly & Co, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Otsuka.

World Mental Health Day is on 10 October. The campaign has been promoted to international media such as CNN World, BBC World and Africa Online.

The campaign also aims to reach mental health professionals and government officials. Events will include lunches, briefings and meetings in Washington DC. Around 4,000 local and
national organisations in 180 countries, including the UK, are participating.
 
Campaign packs are being distributed by the World Federation for Mental Health, which allow organisations to work with local
media to promote the initiative's main messages.

Campaign information is also being posted online in downloadable format, and is available in Spanish and French, as well as English.
In the UK, Action in Mental Health, a charity based in Epping, Essex, is to hold its annual Celebrity Gala Auction Dinner, featuring a lookalike of Only Fools and Horses' Del Boy  as compere of a charity auction.
