DfES The Department for Education and Skills is using Geronimo Communications to handle its ‘Every Lesson Counts’ campaign. The drive to improve attendance and behaviour at secondary schools will launch in November. The campaign aims to stop parents taking their children out of school for cheaper off-peak holidays.

HOUNSLOW Hounslow Primary Care Trust has launched a campaign against the use of jargon in the NHS. 'I Don't Speak NHS' encourages its staff and partners to use plain English, spell out acronyms and explain terms that colleagues or patients may not understand. Attendees at the trust's annual meeting this Tuesday were given yellow cards to show when someone uses language they failed to  grasp.

STOCKPORT Stockport Council has hired Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council comms officer John Spittlehouse as media enquiries officer. The post has been created to help deal with the increasing number of approaches from media, which have almost doubled in the past year.

KNOWSLEY Merseyside authority Knowsley Council has been lobbying for support for its proposed neighbourhood regeneration project at this week's Labour Party Conference in Brighton. From its stand, titled 'Turning around communities', PROs are promoting awareness of the difficulties associated with ring-fenced funding on renewal work.

LEEDS DJ Chris Moyles and ITV sports presenter Gabby Logan unveiled Leeds' new branding campaign this week at an event in the Victoria Quarter. The 'Leeds, Live it, Love it' launch event also premiered a promotional film for the city, which included appearances from Patsy Kensit, Kaiser Chiefs, Embrace and Leigh Francis (aka Avid Merrion).

ENGLAND Sport England has launched its Everyday Sport campaign to encourage the nation to be more active. It aims to have three per cent more people involved in physical activity by 2008, hitting Government targets. The drive is being handled by Hill & Knowlton. It is also being accompanied by TV and radio advertising.
