Youth Justice Board fills top media relations post

The Youth Justice Board (YJB) has hired former Sargent Cancer Care for Children head of comms Zena Fernandes as head of media.

Her role was created by director of comms Sean Larkins, to whom she will report when she joins in October.

Larkins expanded the media relations team as part of a wider comms shake-up after his arrival from the Central Office of Information in January (PRWeek, 7 January).

Before her six years as head of communications at Sargent,
Fernandes freelanced for numerous charities such as Cafod and Save the Children.

The YJB was created to tackle child crime, ensure legal cases
involving minors are dealt with speedily and fairly, and to help prevent re-offending through the promotion of policies such as restorative justice.

Fernandes takes the newly created role after a two-year career break and will be charged with a four-strong team comprising three media managers and one press office assistant.
