Birmingham set for culinary drive

Promotional body Marketing Birmingham is positioning the city as a centre for gastronomic excellence to branch out from its usual association with Indian food.

Lifestyle campaign 'Birmingham Bites', handled by retained agency S&X Media, is aimed at pushing the second city's restaurants, specialist food shops, local food producers, markets and themed areas.

'Obviously the historic Balti Triangle is associated with Birmingham, which is great, but we have a range of cuisine from our Michelin-starred restaurants to the Chinese Quarter,' said PR manager Trudi Dunlop.

The £300,000 campaign, which uses the strapline 'the world in one city', will offer a year of food and drink related events, starting at the BBC Good Food Show in November.

The campaign will be targeted at national, international and local press, travel, food and drink titles and consumer press.
