Smaller charities get media advice

Government-backed charity investment fund Futurebuilders England has produced a 'media toolkit' to help small charities run their own PR campaigns.

By encouraging smaller charities - with budgets of less than £100,000 and fewer than four staff - to be more media savvy, Futurebuilders hopes they will better sell their services to the public sector and reduce their dependence on grants.

The CD-Rom explains how to draw up a PR strategy, pitch to potential sponsors and approach journalists. Produced by the Media Trust, it also includes video clips of Woman's Hour presenter Jenni Murray and ex-Sky News newsreader Lisa Aziz giving advice.

Set up a year ago, Futurebuilders provides loans and grants to smaller charities; to date, £27m has been given to more than 80 organisations.
