CSR work hailed at Clarion Awards

John Lewis, The Metropolitan Police and Floella Benjamin OBE all scooped awards at the second IVCA Clarion Awards for CSR comms, held this Wednesday.

The event, for which PRWeek is media sponsor, singled out organisations that showed 'the finest examples of responsible communication' in their CSR, sustainable development or social inclusion work.

Retailer John Lewis's 2004 CSR report won the PRWeek-backed printed materials award, and the gay recruitment campaign run by the Metropolitan Police was praised in the advertising and promotion category.

Ex-Playschool presenter and tireless charity campaigner Benjamin received a Champion Award for her 'major contribution to most sectors of the media'.

Drugs firm GlaxoSmithKline added a strategic comms award to the video award it won last year, and mining corporation Rio Tinto picked up a second interactive media award.

IVCA chief exec Wayne Drew said the awards reflected 'a wider belief in business and society that communications can be motivational, inspiring and dynamic'.
