Brandreth's quips just about kept the awards throng swinging during the 100-minute ceremony, prolonged by the painful process of calling all the runners-up nominees to the stage.
Brandreth reminded his audience that corporate communications category sponsor General Dynamics were 'the missile people' who had helped to make the world 'a safer place'. He went on to point out how British Nuclear Fuels was 'naturally the sponsor for the CSR section', and could scarcely contain his surprise at the nomination of Coca-Cola Bottlers for the not-for-profit award.
The CIPR assures us that 'the feedback was very good'. We can only hope that the CIPR's sponsors take this kind of thing in their stride.
