Yahoo! looks for new blood as Cow quits mail work

Internet service provider Yahoo! UK and Ireland has approached agencies outside its current roster over a consumer PR contract to promote its Mail and Messenger interests.

The move follows the resignation of the business by Cow PR. It is thought four agencies will pitch. Yahoo! was unavailable to comment on details of the review.

Cow said in a statement: 'Letting a client of this stature go is not something that we do lightly. But we couldn't agree on the way forward and felt it was in both our interests to part company.'

Cow started work for Yahoo! in 2002 and its campaigns have been shortlisted for awards.

Other agencies that Yahoo! continues to use include Cohn & Wolfe (B2B and corporate) and Bite Communications (consumer and trade for Yahoo! Search).

- Separately, Yahoo! is using Splendid Communications for a consumer PR project for Yahoo! Search. The agency started work in June on a five-month programme aimed at targeting the 'premium media', in addition to forming 'strategic partnerships' and developing a microsite.
