Public Affairs: H&K promotes Liverpool's culture status in South

The Liverpool Culture Company (LCC) has briefed Hill & Knowlton Public Affairs to persuade Westminster politicians and London's business, media and arts communities to buy into its European Capital of Culture status for 2008.

The LCC wants London-based stakeholders to invest in the city and participate in the year-long series of events. H&K will develop, manage and promote an event at the House of Commons Terrace on 19 May.

The account will be led by H&K director Rod Cartwright, who reports to LCC creative business manager Jen Curry. 'We want the event to act as a catalyst for closer involvement with opinion leaders in the UK,' Cartwright said.

Liverpool was selected to be 2008 European Capital of Culture last year.

The LCC was set up to deliver the culture programme up to and beyond 2008.

H&K secured the contract after a competitive pitch.
