Public Sector: South Yorks woos new business

Inward investment group Renaissance South Yorkshire has hired Harrogate-based agency RAM Media Group. The hire comes as it changes its promotional strategy to promote specific benefits of the region, such as transport links.

Renaissance marketing executive Tom Wilson said: 'We were previously promoting the region as a whole but now plan to use specific benefits, such as the recent development of the Robin Hood Airport at Doncaster, as a hook to attract businesses.'

It is also tempting business to relocate to the area with grants available through the National Coalfield Programme, which is run by English Partnerships.

RAM managing director Peter Davenport said: 'The message we are getting out is that this is an area that supports business.'

Hi-tech and financial services firms as well as central government are among sectors being targeted for relocation.

PR and marketing was previously handled by a six-strong roster of agencies, including RAM, on a project basis.
