Diary: You can have your kebab and eat it

Kebab outlets must have shuddered at a Sun headline last week - 'Poison kebabs'. The tabloid was refering to a salmonella outbreak at the A1 Kebabish takeaway in Manor Park, East London.

Regular Diary readers will know of our interest in kebabs - indeed, PRWeek's story a couple of years' ago about the plans of Vatan Catering, a North London kebab firm, to hire a PR firm memorably featured on the BBC's Have I Got News for You.

So what sort of reputational damage will this incident inflict on the industry as a whole? We thought Roddy MacCrimmon would have a view - after all it was his agency, Surrey's PM Partnership,that Vatan, which is in no way linked with the A1 Kebabish incident, called in to handle its PR.

MacCrimmon says: 'It will take more than this to damage the kebab industry's reputation', pointing out kebabs are increasingly becoming a 'family feeding' - and that Vatan's kebabs are 'first class'.

Hold the chilli sauce.
