City & Corporate: Trio of deals catapult Cubitt Consulting to top

Cubitt Consulting has jumped straight into first position in this month's Deal Watch table after working on three of last month's largest deals.

Cubitt - which has entered the Deal Watch table of top ten firms by combined value of deals in February for the first time in more than 14 months - advised WMC Resources on the £3.4bn bid for the company by Xstrata (which used Aura Financial as its retained adviser).

The firm also worked on Serco's £235m bid for ITNET, and for retained client ebookers, which was acquired by Cendant for £209m last month.

The top ten firms worked on deals worth £3.6bn less in February than the top ten managed in the first month of the year. The lower deal volume has led to five firms who were not in last month's table making it into the chart for February.

Finsbury held on to second position for a fourth month, having advised HHG on Life Company Investor Group's £1bn acquisition of the firm.

GCG Hudson Sandler took third position, having advised Wickes on Travis Perkins's £950m acquisition of the business from Focus Wickes, which retained both GCG and Equus during the deal.

Cannings, Lansons and College Hill are February's other new joiners.

Cannings also advised HHG, while Lansons advised LCIG.
