Learmouth took up the new post of business development partner this week with a brief to win clients in the financial services and telecoms sectors.
He reports to Charles Lewington, managing director at the public affairs and corporate comms specialist.
Learmouth's experience in the telecoms sector, having handled financial PR for UK-based fixed-line operator Colt Telecom while at WMC, would equip him to take on Media Strategy clients, Lewington said.
'With the Ofcom review (of telecoms regulation under way), you cannot work in telecoms without appreciating the legislative and regulatory standpoint,' said Learmouth.
'PA and PR, particularly in financial services and telecoms, are becoming increasingly interrelated, so understanding that is more and more important,' he added.
WMC deputy chairman Alex Glover has taken on Learmouth's title and responsibility for his main clients, including food producer Sygen International, until a replacement is recruited.
'We are very sad to lose Scott,' said Glover. 'But he's 30 and has been with us for five years: this was a natural progression for him.'
