Continental Tyres to plug footy link

The UK arm of German tyre firm Continental is in talks with PR agencies as it looks to boost awareness of its status as an official partner of the 2006 World Cup.

The world's fourth-largest tyre manufacturer, Continental wants to capitalise on its £69m investment in the tournament, and make use of Alan Shearer, who has signed as a brand ambassador to front its PR and marketing activity.

The Red Consultancy, Nelson Bostock Communications and Nexus Communications are believed to be bidding for the £150,000 brief.

Harrison Cowley, which has worked for Continental for three years, has not been invited to repitch.
