Public Affairs: Quintus to boost search company

Searchflow, a firm that provides automated property searches to speed up the process of buying a property, has hired Quintus Public Affairs to advise on an Office of Fair Trading (OFT) study into the property search market.

Searchflow is one of three firms set up from the creation of the National Land Information Service, a government initiative to automate land and property information.

The provider allows people to make searches on areas such as land ownership, environmental information and planning permission all from its website.

The information is held by a number of bodies including local authorities, the Land Registry, and can take weeks to complete through traditional conveyancing methods.

Quintus MD Chris Guyver said it would help 'identify the firm's desired outcomes from the investigation' and advise the Government on local authorities' 'uptake of electronic search systems'.

The OFT study was triggered by complaints about local authorities abusing their position as monopoly suppliers of information.
