Banerji quits as Lib Dems PR chief

The Liberal Democrats are on the hunt for a director of press and broadcasting following this week’s departure of Robin Banerji.

Banerji told PRWeek the Lib Dems would appoint an interim head of comms overseeing the party’s eight-strong press office until a replacement is found.

Banerji, who joined the Lib Dems two years ago from the Commission for Racial Equality (PRWeek, 5 July 2002), is replacing Sharon Atkinson as Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI) head of comms on an interim basis.

Atkinson left to be the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s first director of external and corporate affairs (PRWeek, 10 September).

The Lib Dems are expected to make a permanent appointment within two months.
