Retrofone to plug ‘collector’ units

Online handset retailer Retrofone is preparing to position outdated mobiles as collectable items for a campaign around the launch of its website.

PR will use examples of quirky, retro phone designs, as well as research results revealing how handsets are lost, gleaned from more than 1,000 customers. It is targeting mobile phone and SME supply titles, as well as nationals and lifestyle press.

The campaign by Johnson King PR has a primary target of SMEs looking for an inexpensive source of mobile phones. The agency will build the media profile of company founder and retro-phone collector Olly Tagg.

Retrofone began selling new and refurbished handsets through eBay this year, attracting a turnover of more than £10,000 a month within six weeks, but from 16 November will operate from its own website.
