Lexis PR fills public sector sponsorship position

PR agency Lexis Public Relations has poached Matthew Elton from sponsorship agency EDComms to fill the newly created role of head of public sector sponsorship.

Elton is to focus on the agency’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) account, which it won just over four months ago to promote the UK’s dual presidencies of the European Union and G8 summit next year (PRWeek, 28 May).

Reporting to Lexis board director Duncan Mackenzie-Reid, Elton will work to secure commercial sponsorship of the two events, mostly through ‘value in kind’ sponsorship, by which companies offer services in exchange for use of the G8 and EU logos and the right to declare themselves official sponsors.

Elton, formerly senior business development manager at EDComms, is looking for sponsors in sectors such as IT, telecoms and transport.

Mackenzie-Reid said: ‘There is much scope to deliver better sponsorship for the public sector.’
