Top PRO leaves amid Celltech/UCB review

BRUSSELS/SLOUGH: The top PR man at Celltech, the British biotech firm bought by Belgian company UCB earlier this year, has left amid an ongoing review of the two companies’ comms requirements.

Celltech director of corporate strategy, investor relations and comms Richard Bungay, who was unavailable for comment as PRWeek went to press, is understood to have taken a post as chief financial officer elsewhere in the UK biotech industry.

Brussels-based UCB group director of corporate comms Laurence Battaille said a review of the firms’ comms operations was ongoing.

UCB has around six staff in its corporate press team in Belgium, plus various product PROs. Celltech’s only other PRO is Slough-based Hannah West, who is currently ‘working on communications’ surrounding the firms’ integration, said Battaille.

UCB head of pharma comms Margaret Morgan quit earlier this year to join AstraZeneca (PRWeek, 16 July).

The formal process of integration between UCB and Celltech management began almost three months ago.
