Ex-Raffarin aide fined in sex case

Paris: Dominique Ambiel, the TV producer who became the personal comms adviser to French PM Jean-Pierre Raffarin two years ago, has been fined 1,500 euros (£1,025) by the Correctional Tribunal of Paris for having solicited sex with a Romanian teenage prostitute in April.

Ambiel was forced to resign his post immediately after his arrest. The 17-year-old prostitute claimed at the time that she met Ambiel regularly in a Paris hotel.

Besides the fine, Ambiel was made to pay a symbolic euro to the Voix de l’Enfant (The Child’s Voice), an association that attempts to counter child prostitution.

Through his attorneys Marie-Alix Canu-Bernard and Olivier Metzner, Ambiel said that he would be appealing the decision.
