APPOINTMENT: Unilever head of UK communications Patrick Kerr has been appointed non-executive director of The Whitehall & Industry Group. WIG is a not-for-profit group set up to encourage dialogue between the private sector and government on policy and regulation.

PUBLIC SECTOR: The British Army Rugby League has hired sports marketing agency Codebreaker to promote the sport to soldiers and potential enlisters. The campaign kicks off on 29 September at the league’s tenth anniversary match between the British Army and Royal Navy at Richmond Rugby Club.

APPOINTMENT: London Tonight reporter Nick Walton has joined video comms firm Broadview as head of PR. Walton was a reporter for London Network News until October last year and still works as a freelance for London Tonight.

TRADE PR: The American International Toy Fair has hired Energy PR to promote the show to European toy makers, distributors and sales agents. The event takes place in New York on 20-22 February.

APPOINTMENT: Weber Shandwick’s former European training manager, Hilary Jeffs, has resurfaced at HBL Media as head of media training. Jeffs returns to the agency world after a year of freelancing and reports to editorial MD Steve Levinson.

TECHNOLOGY: Education hardware and software producer TDS Promethean has hired Portfolio Communications following a competitive pitch against incumbent TDM. The interactive learning and teaching materials maker has retained Portfolio for its corporate PR at a fee of £80,000 a year.

APPOINTMENT: Former Pfizer South Africa head of public relations Janine Hogan has joined Jango Communications as executive director. Hogan has spent the past four years freelancing for Santé Communications.
