Pfizer holds pitch for pain brands

NEW YORK: Pfizer is to consolidate global PR for one of its drug franchises for the second time in less than a year.

Four PR agencies – reported to be Burson-Marsteller, Hill & Knowlton and Ogilvy PR Worldwide, in addition to Porter Novelli – are scrapping for a contract to promote its pain franchise.

Three brands within Pfizer’s pain unit are Celebrex, Bextra and Dynastat.

Manning Selvage & Lee, which held the Celebrex account, chose not to pitch, said Pfizer US pharmaceuticals director of PA Michal Fishman.

Weber Shandwick, which held Bextra, also opted not to pitch because of a client conflict, Fishman added. Pfizer expects to choose an agency before the end of September.

The firm appointed WPP to promote its cardiovascular franchise earlier this year (PRWeek, 6 February).
