The Pharmacy Channel hires PRO

The Pharmacy Channel, the in-store digital media network for independent pharmacies, has appointed its first PR consultant as it prepares to launch a campaign to boost its profile among pharmacists and pharma companies.

Deborah Simpson is to quit Hampshire-based agency Boomerang, where she holds the role of PR manager, at the end of this week to start her own consultancy – with The Pharmacy Channel as her first client.

The Pharmacy Channel sales director Fraser Sim said the channel, which currently broadcasts in 400 independent pharmacies in the south-east of England, wants to penetrate 600 more pharmacies nationwide as soon as possible.

Sim said: ‘We want to create a stir in the right press.’

The channel started up eight months ago and broadcasts consumer ads and Healthwatch, issue-led, topical spots that focus on issues such as obesity, diabetes and smoking cessation, on a continuous loop.

After-hours broadcasts switch to show B2B ads and information aimed at pharmacists themselves. Firms that have supported the channel include Pfizer and GSK.

The Healthwatch slots are overseen by Nainish Bapna.

The Pharmacy Channel is backed by £100m of funding from private investors.
