Diary: C&W PRO annoys with 'trivial' release

PROs and hacks were this week convening in Athens for the Olympics, scheduled to get under way this Friday.

One PRO in Greece is Cohn & Wolfe consultant Alex Brown, who is there to plug agency client Samsung.

Brown will be hoping for better fortune than that which hampered his pre-Olympics Samsung publicity efforts, when he enraged hacks in the mobile phone market by emailing them what trade mag Mobile News described as a 'trivial' press release on Nell McAndrew's involvement in the mega-hyped Olympic Torch Relay.

The mag's White Lines column said: 'Email meltdown was caused by 8Mb of attachments showing the C-list celeb prancing round London in a tight Samsung T-shirt.' World Telemedia editor Paul Skeldon ranted: 'Please do not send me shite like this again. There should be a law against useless PR people sending out massive emails.' Brown was in Greece this week and beyond contact but Ash Coleman-Smith, C&W deputy MD, was keen to point out that the McAndrew image was used in more than 20 titles, including the front cover of Mobile Business.

Coleman-Smith adds: 'We are surprised any journalist would complain about receiving a picture of Nell McAndrew.'
