Big PR firms fare worse in report

Small PR consultancies are prospering while the industry is congested at the top, according to a survey by Plimsoll Publishing.

Focusing on the top 100 agencies in the UK, the survey concluded that size does not necessarily mean success, as 27 of the leading companies did not make a profit last year, according to Plimsoll Publishing senior analyst David Pattison.

He also predicted that some of the big agencies could be taken over or will merge as a result, but that small consultancies are at little risk of takeover because they do not offer any strategic opportunity.

The survey also found that 40 per cent of directors have been in the job less than three years, while 13 per cent of the top 100 PR consultancy directors are aged over 60.
