Diary: Hit or Miss... Davis's no-show

Absenteeism is much frowned upon in all walks of working life. But what makes Monday's no-show by shadow home secretary David Davis more surprising, if not shocking, is that it occurred during a Commons debate on the beating heart of the Tory party - law and order. 'Davis didn't just miss an open goal, he failed to turn up for the game,' cried The Sun, with a photo of a seemingly napping Davis at an earlier Commons session. Had Davis overslept? No. He was late returning from a fact-finding mission in the US.
