Wakefield fights local litter-bugs

Wakefield District Council has begun a campaign to clear up the district and warn potential litter-bugs of the fines they face.

The campaign was started with town criers announcing the emergence of the fixed penalties in the town centre this week.

An ad campaign including posters and leaflets is also being rolled out to raise awareness of the fines.

The council is tackling littering as part of its ‘Neighbourhood Action’ campaign’. Launched in July last year, Neighbourhood Action is the council’s largest clean-up and community safety initiative to date.

The campaign is supported by West Yorkshire Police and the Community Safety Partnership.
