FIA gains support for fitness drive

The Fitness Industry Association (FIA) has teamed up with responsible-drinking organisation The Portman Group and the NHS to encourage the public to ‘commit to get fit’.

The FIA is targeting more than 525 private health clubs and public leisure centres with a celebrity-led PR campaign – including Steve Redgrave and Arnold Schwarzenegger – that aims to introduce more than 100,000 people to regular exercise.

The NHS is publicising its support as a response to ‘growing concern about increasing levels of obesity and inactivity’.

The Portman Group is providing alcohol information to gym users and fitness instructors.

The campaign also aims to raise money for Diabetes UK through the activities.
