Public Sector: IDeA tips aid cohesion coverage

The Improvement and Development Agency (IDeA) has launched a module on its website to help local authorities work more effectively with the media on community cohesion.

The Connecting with Communities kit went live last week designed for those in media relations or involved in producing communication strategies.

Compiled together with the Home Office's Community Cohesion Unit and the Local Government Association, IDeA's module includes tips for dealing with the media, an outline to national guidance, and advice on tackling negative media coverage.

There are also a raft of good examples demonstrating how local authorities have achieved successful coverage for their community cohesion stories, plus a section on community cohesion, communications and the law.

The Community Cohesion Unit was set up following the race riots in Bradford, Burnley and Oldham in the summer of 2001.
