Ex-WS Hong Kong chief sets up shop

HONG KONG: Former Weber Shandwick regional co-president Emma Smith has launched her own agency, The Consultancy.

Smith, who resigned from WS in July 2003, believes her new venture is a reflection of shifting client expectations.

‘I believe that many senior executives only wish to interact with senior consultants,’ she said. ‘The agency model is changing and what clients want has also changed in many areas.’

The Consultancy will focus on providing clients with ‘strategic CEO and MD-level counsel and assistance’, she added.

Smith’s departure from WS sparked a turbulent period at its Hong Kong office, where she doubled as managing director. Deputy MD Simon Eldridge assumed the top job for barely three months before being replaced by current office head Jill Mortenson.
