AstraZeneca cuts US PA unit in two

WILMINGTON, DE: AstraZeneca has split its US public affairs and government relations functions as it attempts to put more focus on managed care, given the new Medicare prescription-drug law.

Executive director of corporate communications Rachel Bloom-Baglin said the US government had become ‘a key customer’. Medicare provides financial benefits to people over 65 and with certain disabilities.

Before the realignment, the PA unit oversaw government affairs, public policy, corporate external comms, brand comms, and corporate and community affairs.

Under the new structure, government affairs, public policy and managed markets have their own group headed by Marion McCourt. The other areas plus internal comms come under a new comms and external relations group.
