F-H folds UpStart into tech offering

SAN FRANCISCO: Fleishman-Hillard (F-H) has killed off tech PR brand UpStart Communications and absorbed its staff into the main agency.

F-H acquired the California-based agency during the dotcom boom in 1999. It has now turned UpStart’s focus into a new division called the Customer Leverage Group, based in the San Francisco office but working with clients across the agency.

Most of UpStart’s staff have joined F-H’s San Francisco office. However, UpStart general manager Patty Lund is taking time off to ‘recharge her batteries’, according to F-H West Coast president Curt Kundred.

UpStart, which opened its doors in 1990 and focused initially on start-up tech firms, was one of a number of agencies acquired in the late-1990s during the tech boom.
